Born on September 4, 1950, in St. Lucia, Joseph lived a life marked by strength, resilience, growth, and love. Raised in a large and lively family, he developed a bold spirit, strong character, and a presence that could not be ignored. From a young age, Joseph stood out—full of energy, fearless, and determined to live life on his own terms. Joseph was a hardworking man who took pride in what he did. As a carpenter, he worked with his hands, building, creating, and shaping things with care and skill. His craft reflected patience, dedication, and a deep understanding that anything built with effort and intention can stand strong. Just like the work he created, Joseph’s life was built on strength, endurance, and purpose. One of Joseph’s greatest joys in life was cooking. He loved being in the kitchen, and barbecuing was one of his favorite things to do. Holidays, family gatherings, or any opportunity to cook were moments he truly cherished. Cooking was his way of bringing people together—filling not only plates but hearts. His meals created memories, laughter, and togetherness that his family will forever hold close. Joseph was known for his vibrant personality and high spirit. He had a way of connecting with people that was genuine and unforgettable. He was humorous, outspoken, and full of life. At the same time, he was kind, generous, and always willing to help anyone—family, friends, or even strangers. If you met Joseph, you felt his presence. If you knew Joseph, you felt his heart. One of the things that made Joseph truly special was his favorite saying, often shared with a smile: "Coo-coo mi gwaj" This phrase, which he picked up from a friend, became part of who he was. In his way of explaining it, it meant that when you take a coconut and place it on a grater, you make it better—transforming it into something richer and more useful. In many ways, that saying reflected Joseph’s life. He believed in taking what you have and making something meaningful out of it. Through his work, his cooking, his words, and his actions, he had a way of adding value, strength, and life to those around him. As the years passed, Joseph’s life reflected growth and a deeper sense of peace. His strength remained, but so did his kindness. He became a man whose presence brought both energy and comfort—a man who lived, learned, and left behind something meaningful for others to carry forward. Joseph’s journey was not only one of life and growth, but also one of faith. He was baptized, publicly declaring his belief and commitment to God. This moment reflected a deeper spiritual connection and a desire to walk in faith. His baptism was a meaningful step in his life—one that symbolized renewal, purpose, and the grace of God working within him. Joseph shared 15 years of love and companionship with his beloved wife, Jacintha Michel. Their journey together was one of commitment, care, and shared life. He was also a proud father to Murlika Wilson, Melissa Michel, and Paulina Wilson, and he lovingly embraced his stepchildren, Micheline Randolph, Kashia Joseph, and Amin Richard. His love continues through his children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was the beloved son of the late Evans Michel and Marie Veronique Michel. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Lambert Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Suege St. Rose, Innocent Martinez Joseph, and Peter Joseph; and his sisters Bruno Edward, Patricia Thomas, Luciell Henery, and Lydia Camilla Mitchell. Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Michael Michel, Alfred Mitchell, Cyril Mitchell, Francis Michel, Christopher Michel, Julian Mitchell, Trevor St. Rose, Gerald Dennis, John Joseph, and Eyour Joseph; his sisters: Milda Donnelly, Marilyn Michel, Julianna Michel, and Alberta Dennis; brother-in-law: Cyril Donelly and sisters-in-law: Morel Michel, Gemma Mitchel, and Michelle Michel. Joseph also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews too numerous to mention but dearly loved, extended family, and many friends whose lives were touched by his presence. Joseph Michel will be remembered as a man of strength, laughter, faith, and heart. He was a man who built not only with his hands, but also through his relationships, his generosity, and his love. He brought people together, lifted spirits, and created memories filled with joy and meaning. His life reminds us that through faith, effort, and love, we can build something lasting—not just in the world, but in the hearts of others. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on—in every shared meal, every laugh, every story, and every life he touched. “Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
